Locial Inferences, Not Necessarily Correct.

I'd like to say a few words on hermeneutics and how Christians form their doctrines. Many times Christians attempt to defend their faith using fallacious arguments. We'll look at some logical fallacies at another time, what I want to look at today is, inferences. Many times Christians will form their doctrines based on inferences they've drawn from the Scriptures. That in and of itself is not a bad thing, however, just because an inference is logical that doesn't mean it is correct. For instance, suppose I look out the window and see that it is cloudy and the grass is wet. A logical inference would be that it has rained. That is a logical inference from the facts that I have, it's cloudy and the grass is wet. However, that is not the only inference that can be drawn from those facts. It is also possible that the grass is wet because the sprinkle came on and watered the lawn. Can you see how even though we have two facts that are true, it's cloudy and the grass is wet, we can draw an incorrect inference that leads to an incorrect conclusion? So, it's possible to draw an incorrect conclusion from facts. This is something we need to keep in mind when we are reading the Scriptures. It is a much better idea to form Christian doctrine on things that are clearly stated. It's quite easy to infer something that is incorrect which may lead to other incorrect inferences sending us of track and in the wrong direction.

I'm working on more articles for the website.

I've already added the "The Kingdom of God" and "Should Christians Use Violence" articles to the website. I am currently working on articles on Baptism and the Atonement. I also plan an article on the subject of works. This seems to be an area of much confusion among Christians. Hopefully these are articles will shed some light on the these issues.
